Purple Mountains

This painting is one of contrasts – an apparently calm lake beneath threatening skies. It is deeply thoughtful, with an element of anger and harshness but one finds oneself within that turbulence, finding refuge and solace there even among one’s own at first unwelcome emotions. It is representative of being comfortable in one’s own skin, being able not only to live with oneself but to be content and love oneself without trying to change or to be the person that other people expect or hope for. It could even be said to represent grief – the sadness and the emptiness of loss may always remain, and yet one can learn to live peacefully with it, not trying to overcome or remove it but simply to live.

Acrylic on 30x40cm (approx. 12″x16″) stretched canvas, with sides painted and ready to hang.
