Swallow-tailed Hummingbird

NOW SOLD, sorry!

Inspired by a photo taken by my brother-in-law when he visited Argentina, I painted the majority of this picture while on the train from Gloucester to Fishguard, visiting friends in whose home we would spend the weekend. The scenery on that journey was inspiring and refreshing, and I had various short conversations on the train while painting. People seemed to enjoy watching me paint and did not particularly want to disturb the process with conversation, but I relished it when people did talk to me.
One day I would love to visit Argentina and see wildlife like this myself – Ben and I lived for a year in Bolivia but did not venture out into Argentina during that time. We saw little wildlife where we lived (though we spent little time looking for it) – while we were there I painted only from imagination, though had little time to paint as work, sleep and friendships consumed most of our time. We love to talk about the projects we worked for over there – do get in touch if you’re interested and would like to hear about it!
