Hi! Welcome. I’m glad you came.
I gather you’re here because you heard about my SOAP classes… Here’s some more info!
School Of Acrylic Painting.
Welcome to the Kat Gibson Art School Of Acrylic Painting. I am a self-taught artist and will be teaching techniques and methods based on what I have picked up from my own years’ worth of experience, not from any other curriculum from any organisation.
In order to practice the techniques and tools covered in each session, each student will produce a painting in the session, the theme of which is specified in my Curriculum. No two paintings will be the same – each student will do the sorts of pictures that they would like to produce, with help and guidance from me along the way. This means that I am not going to simply give all students a picture and tell them to copy it. I will teach them to experiment and learn various styles, to try out different shapes and colours together, to blend colours in ways that they find exhilarating, so that each student will become an artist in their own right with their distinctive ways and personal favourites, not simply lots of clones of me or my style! I will train the students to follow their imaginations, to dream, to go wherever the paint and brush may lead, and to explore or express themes that are important to them. Art is not just about making a mess and creating something pretty, but about making sense of the world; conveying purpose; causing viewers to feel things. Painting is an outlet, a therapy, a tool – not just a hobby.
Starting on 5th/6th April 2018…
Classes for 8-18 year olds are fortnightly on Thursdays at 5:30pm, for an hour. There will only be 4 students in each class, so the teaching can be tailored to what each participant particularly wants to learn or is skilled at. No experience is necessary, and all equipment is provided. Click Here to see the Curriculum and what will be covered in each lesson! (Parents are welcome to leave their children/teens with me after signing a simple consent form that I will provide at the first session – alternatively parents are more than welcome to stay and have a hot drink while the session is taking place!)
These classes are £10 per person per session (or £18 for two friends or siblings taking the class together). If you pay for 12 sessions at once you only pay £99 (or £180 for two friends or siblings taking the course together). Click Here to book your place – or if you prefer, give me a call on 07985 242543 or email KatGibsonArt@gmail.com.
Classes for Adults (anyone over 18 is welcome – there is no upper age limit!) are fortnightly on Fridays at 9:30am, for 90 minutes. Again, there will only be 4 in each class, so the teaching can be tailored to what each participant particularly wants to learn or is skilled at. No experience is necessary, and all equipment is provided. Click Here to see the Curriculum and what will be covered in each lesson!
All adult students will have opportunity to display and/or sell their paintings through their own personal page on my website, should they wish to do so. I can set up and manage the page for you – you simply choose the content. I won’t take any commission from paintings sold: you choose the price, and the buyer pays directly into your PayPal account. Your page will be http://www.KatGibsonArt.com/your-name and I can provide personalised artist business cards for you to pass on to family and friends who may want to see your page and purchase your paintings. Excited yet?
Classes for adults are £15 per person per session, or if you pay for 12 sessions at once you only pay £150 (£30 off!). There is also a discount if you book with a friend. Click Here to book your place
– or if you prefer, give me a call on 07985 242543 or email KatGibsonArt@gmail.com.
You may be asking yourself what else is included in the cost of the sessions. Firstly, all new students will receive a Welcome Pack which consists of the three most useful brushes in acrylic painting; an A4 Sketchbook containing 40 sheets of artist paper; a Portfolio Display Folder with room for 20 paintings produced in class; a Mastery Checklist (since it’s always satisfying to tick a box once we’ve learnt or achieved something!); a Tear-Off Palette, a pencil and a personal set of acrylic paints. This equipment, as well as being used in class, can be taken home and used outside the sessions – and while in class participants will also have access to a more extensive supply of paints, canvasses and the like.
After each session each participant will be given a code to access a detailed recap of what we learnt in that session, through this website. Tailored support and personal tuition is provided – I will ensure that each technique is mastered to some extent before teaching the next one, and will provide direct attention, tips and practical help as each person masters each technique. Light refreshments are provided at each session, too.
After six sessions each student will receive a reward consisting of four 30x40cm stretched canvasses, a set of ten new brushes in a variety of sizes, a full set of very nice acrylic paints used by professionals, a £10 voucher to spend on my website and a Kat Gibson Art bumper sticker. The paints and brushes should be brought to the sessions, but the rest can be kept at home. 30x40cm canvasses will now be used in class in addition to the sketchbook.
After 12 sessions each student will graduate SOAP Level 1, having learnt a number of useful techniques, styles and tools for painting with acrylics. At this point each student will receive a badge, certificate and reward consisting of two 40x50cm canvasses, three 30x40cm canvasses, a choice between a new set of brushes or a new artist sketchbook, some scented soap (to clean brushes, skin and clothing when practicing at home), a fridge magnet and a further £20 voucher to spend on my website. At this point the group will embark on SOAP Level 2, the curriculum for which can be found Here. On entering Level 2 the students will receive a Canvas Pad, an artist pen, new brushes if desired, and 10 Artist Mounts which will be used throughout the course as artwork is produced. The Curriculum for SOAP Level 3 is yet to be written and will depend largely on the progress and preferences of the group at the time, but may include canvas stretching, use of water, varnishes/finishing, marketing etc if desired.
In case you were wondering, I have an up-to-date DBS check through St Lawrence Church and also through Barnwood Primary school. Self-employed Private Tutors are unable to apply for DBS checks specific to the tutoring work, but I hope your mind is at ease. If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to Contact Me.
