In a recent Moomin film (Moomins on the Riviera) based on one of Tove Janssen’s comics, Moominpappa’s catchphrase is “Live in peace, plant potatoes, and dream.” The film shows some of the differences between the ‘high life’ with the celebrities on the Riviera, and the preferred ‘simple life’ on the beach or back in Moomin Valley. This painting represents that ‘simple life’. Calm, reflective, undistracted, uncluttered – to live in peace, plant potatoes, and dream. May we all learn to incorporate something of that lovely simplicity in our own lives, not being overwhelmed with hectic busyness with our minds in a million-and-one places – let us re-learn the art of unitasking, and make space for that peace and simplicity that we so desperately need to function well.
Acrylic on 30x40cm (approx. 12″x16″) stretched canvas (sides painted), ready to hang.
