One viewer commented that this painting reminded him of Fishguard on the West coast of Wales, and another mentioned that this style of boat is commonly seen in the Norfolk Broads. This is, in my mind, a quintessentially English picture, though perhaps it could be anywhere. The lake reflects the sky in its cloud-sprinked blue, and (as is the way of sailing) the painting depicts a very calm image experience with a tinge of thrill and adventure. I have never been sailing myself, much as I would love to try it, but I did enjoy painting this – especially the layers of cool blue hills rolling away into the distance.
